As of June 21, 2021, the Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court, Charles Canady, has removed all requirements of social distancing and mandatory face coverings as well as eliminating the requirement that most hearings be conducted remotely. Many court events have been scheduled over the next several months, and were scheduled as Zoom hearings. To provide maximum flexibility and consistency as cases in Sarasota Family Divisions 1 & 2 transition back to in person proceedings, Magistrate Hunt will be following these procedures:
- Tuesday Hearings: Until further notice, Magistrate Hunt will conduct all Tuesday hearings via Zoom.
- All hearings one hour or less: Until further notice, Magistrate Hunt will conduct all discovery related hearings and hearings one hour or less via Zoom.
- Special Set Hearings exceeding one hour: As of September 1, 2021, all special set hearings exceeding one hour will be heard in person unless both parties consent to the hearing proceeding by Zoom.
If a special set hearing is scheduled on Magistrate Hunt’s docket for a hearing prior to September 1, 2021, the parties may stipulate to appear in person, but all parties, witnesses, and counsel must appear in person.
- No Hybrid Zoom Hearings: At this time, the court does not have the available technology to conduct hybrid hearings in which some parties, witnesses, or counsel appear remotely and some in person. If and when this becomes available, these instructions will be updated accordingly.
NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC: The Code of Judicial Conduct governing behavior by judges forbids the Judges of the Twelfth Judicial Circuit to discuss pending cases with the public. Please do not call or email the Court expecting to speak with a Judge about any case. The Court is only allowed to consider arguments made in the courtroom and in documents properly filed by actual parties in the case as authorized by law and the Rules of Court. The Court cannot ethically read or consider any other opinions or arguments about the case. Communications that do not meet these legal requirements cannot be forwarded to the Judges.
