Salary

$4,137.76 monthly including CAD (non-negotiable); State employees are paid on the last workday of each month. The successful candidate will be hired at the minimum salary. Benefits include membership in the Florida Retirement System and a generous contribution by the State to health insurance premiums.

Job

The Twelfth Judicial Circuit has an opening for a Family Court Case Manager to work with the South County Family Court Program in the South County Courthouse in Venice. The position requires someone who is self-motivated, has a keen eye for detail, completes assignments timely, and has the ability to assist others dealing with issues of family divorce and time-sharing matters.  The successful candidate must have the ability to ensure that all persons are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect, while providing equal access to the Court through very detailed administrative work. 

The Family Court Case Manager assists the South County family and civil court judge and magistrate by providing pro se case management and administrative support to the family and civil division. This position’s responsibilities include vast administrative tasks; reviewing family and civil law cases for litigants who are not represented by counsel; related case searches; drafting orders; keeping statistics; setting and attending hearings; assigning professionals to cases ordering reduced fee family programs; and working closely with the Case Management Program Coordinator, Family Judge, Magistrate, their assistants and other court personnel.  The position requires communication with pro se litigants, as well as other professionals such as mental health providers and attorneys.  The position requires attending and participating in family court meetings and involvement in family court improvement projects. 

The South County Family Court Case Manager serves as the Domestic Violence (DV) Coordinator in South County cases, assisting the Family Division Judge with the timely disposition of family law cases through domestic violence case management. The DV Coordinator communicates with litigants before court hearings, attends hearings and works closely with the Family Judge and her assistant.  The DV Coordinator must exercise discretion, as the position requires working with sensitive and confidential information. 

The Family Court Case Manager will be based out of Venice. The Family Court Case Manager will work independently but must be able to demonstrate flexibility to help meet the needs of the family division. Reports to the Case Management Program Coordinator (State of Florida position). Travel to other courthouse locations in the circuit may be required.

A few of your duties and responsibilities:

  • Reviewing pleadings and court files in family law and domestic violence cases;
  • Generate appropriate case management orders; for civil and family division
  • Facilitate all Zoom Case Management Hearings;
  • Draft correspondence and Orders;
  • Maintain statistics; for civil and family division;
  • Perform related case searches and criminal background checks;
  • Schedule and attend Case Management Hearings;
  • Perform domestic violence hearing facilitations;
  • Perform Zoom Case Management functions, including controlling the Zoom waiting room, renaming participants, etc. for all case management hearings.
  • Act as Domestic Violence Coordinator and assists when needed;
  • Act as Family Division liaison with OSCA and share information with Circuit staff;
  • Participating in community agency meetings, and attending training opportunities.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Effective and concise written and oral communication;
  • knowledge of family and civil court processes and practices; 
  • experience with the State of Florida eFiling Portal is helpful;
  • ability to understand case management limitations and what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law;
  • organizational/time management skills;
  • ability to manage and organize a complex, high-energy, high-volume environment;
  • ability to meet deadlines;
  • ability to address difficult, emotionally charged situations and issues professionally and tactfully;
  • ability to use sound judgment;
  • ability to collect and analyze data;
  • ability to prioritize and organize workload;
  • maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court;
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with judiciary court personnel, outside agencies, mental health and legal professionals, unrepresented litigants, community agencies and the general public; and
  • the ability to obtain and maintain NCIC/FCIC certification upon employment (training and certification provided in-house). 

Education

BA/BS from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology or closely related field.  Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
